magicmomma > Opening Lenten Rose
Helleborus orientalis
Ranunculaceae
UT Gardens, Knoxville, TN 3/09
magicmomma > Sophie demonstrates what happens when you fight against the laws of nature and hiking and probability.
You end up not getting anything accomplished, wasting your time, wasting your energy, and looking foolish.
magicmomma > Ace Gap is still bare.
magicmomma > The only exception being a little Trailing Arbutus now and then.
Trailing arbutus is a heath type plant. When you see me use the term Ericaceous or that something is in the family Ericaceae.. it is a tough, leathery, acid loving plant with simple, alternate leaves and funnel form blooms.
Blueberry, cranberry, rhododendron, mountain laurel, azaleas all fit into the heath or eriaceae family.
Epigeae repens
Ericaceae

magicmomma > I made it to CS 3 Before dark and the rain let up which was good.
magicmomma > A hard rain's gonna fall. A drop cloth makes a pretty quick improvised tarp.
magicmomma > Hesse Creek flows by CS 3
magicmomma > Beard Cane Creek Trail continues through CS 3. I loved this shot. It is a Red Ridinghood Forest.
Deep, gloomy, and like the pictures in my books from that story of childhood.
magicmomma > Beard Cane Creek is sandy and gravely in many places. The trail crosses and recrosses or stays in the creek.
