Monday 9/24/07 I completed the entire Deep Creek Trail with Tom Dunigan. We did it as a shuttle hike. 14.2 miles in 7 hours with plenty of goofing off on my part.
It was a fun day and a long one. My dogs are barking today behind it!

magicmomma > Beech Drops were growing along most of the length of Deep Creek Trail. They are an parasitic upon the roots of beech trees which are abundant in this area.

magicmomma > Orange "Chicken" mushroom along Deep Creek Trail.

magicmomma > Lush moss carpets the far side of Deep Creek across from CS 56.

magicmomma > Deep Creek Trail passes through a mainly beech and birch forest near the top and becomes increasingly Rich Cove type forest at the lower elevations.

magicmomma > Peaceful pool along Deep Creek overspread by a birch tree.

magicmomma > Horse Camp 55 along Deep Creek got the Camp Crud Award for the day.
Upon first glance we thought someone had left their garbage hung, but it was a cache of pots and pans sacked up and left for later use. They are WRONG for that!

magicmomma > CS 55 along Deep Creek. Someone decided to leave their tarp up over the picnic table. Another one was partially covering it. Beneath the table was an empty Coleman propane cylinder and other assorted garbage. The fire ring was strewn with imcompletely burned refuse.

magicmomma > A WET BLANKET! The red thing in the foreground is a nasty bedspread someone left laying on the ground. I moved it to check to see that there were no body parts under there. Nastiness I do despise. This camp is a prime example of how NOT to practice Leave No Trace ethics.
A big bouquet of skunk cabbage to whomever slobs did this.
