magicmomma > Helleborine orchids I found prior to starting our hike. They are quite pretty though this blurry photo doesn't do them justice. They are a European species that has naturalized here in the Southeastern USA and Southern Canada. According to Stan Bentley, they are considered a weed in some areas because of how widespread they have become. In the Smokies and all of TN they are only found in this one location.
Epipactis helleborine
Orchidaceae

A new find for me.
magicmomma > One of my favorite spots along The Boulevard Trail where the moss coated the sides of the trail as far as the eye could see both in front of me and behind me!

magicmomma > Grass-0-parnassus growing along The Boulevard Trail nearer the summit.
magicmomma > Moonscape look of the slide area along The Boulevard Trail. This is closer to the summit.
magicmomma > Michaux's Saxifrage is so delicate and pretty and what a contrast against these rocks!
magicmomma > Closeup of Michaux's Saxifrage blossoms.
magicmomma > View from The Boulevard Trail showing only a portion of the long ridge we just traversed to arrive at the Mt. LeConte Summit. You can see from here all the way back to Newfound Gap parking lot! We are only a few hundred yards from the shelter now.
